When does the spinal wear off ?
Usually it will take some hours for feeling to return to the area of your body that was numb. This ranges from one hour to about 18 hours depending on the type of anaesthetic injection.
During this time, the recovery or ward staff will make sure that the numb area is protected from injury.
You can expect to feel tingling as feeling returns, but this soon passes. At this point it is important to let staff know if you are feeling pain.
Also you may have difficulty passing urine as you will not be able to feel when your bladder is full.. A thin soft tube (catheter) may need to be inserted temporarily into the bladder to drain it.
